Help the children of Iraq
Christians and Muslims came together last Sunday to launch an appeal for life-saving donations for the children of Iraq. As well as renown guitarist Slava Grigoriyan, Trades Hall's own Leigh Hubbard was there.
Recent events in Iraq continue to highlight the overwhelming human need facing the people of that nation. Dictatorships and war place substantial burdens on civilian life, mostly borne by women and children.
Victorian Trades Hall Council Secretary, Leigh Hubbard, joined Australian religious leaders in responding to this humanitarian need by helping launch a joint interfaith appeal for Iraq's children.
"The union movement was opposed to the war from the start, but regardless of the politics of the situation we must help the people of Iraq through these troubled times. I urge people to donate to this inter-faith appeal so that Iraqi women and children can have access to life saving medicine, food, water and shelter," Mr Hubbard said.
The Christian World Services and Muslim Aid Australia have joined efforts to provide these important necessities to an estimated 2 million internally displaced Iraqis and countless other refugees starting to amass on the Iranian, Syrian, Turkish and Jordanian borders.
