Community campaign in Deakin

The ASU together with the Finance Sector Union and the State Public Sector Union are launching a community campaign in the Federal seat of Deakin, held by Liberal member Phil Baressi.

On Monday night 19 September a community planning meeting was held, attended by over 50 members of the Deakin community. It made a wonderful start to what we believe will be a very successful campaign.

The campaign will have two primary objectives:

  • to make Baressi aware that within his electorate a substantial number of voters have concerns with the proposed changes.
  • to educate the community on the changes.

To start the campaign we are planning street stalls at 2 locations in the electorate on Saturday 1st October and a stall at the Whitehorse Spring Festival on Sunday 9th October.
Please email me if you are able to donate a couple of hours of your time to make these activities possible. Please indicate which event you are able to attend and if a time during the morning or afternoon is better.

In addition we need people to be involved on the Campaign coordinating committee. Obviously this will require a greater time commitment but will be an immensely rewarding experience.

Should you have any further enquiries, please don't hesitate to call Linda Cargill on 9320 6711 or 0409 778 892.
The success of the Your Rights at Work campaign relies on building community pressure on the Government so that they reconsider workplace changes that will negatively effect all working Australians and their families.
