Howard's Approval Slumps

John Howard's approval has slipped by 10% since launching his attack on workers rights, an ACNielsen AgePoll has found.
It marks the single biggest slump in his approval rating during his Prime Ministership and is the first time it has gone below 50% since August 2001.

The Age newspaper reports reaction from voters on IR has pushed Labor ahead of the Coalition with a 54 - 46% two-party preferred split. It marks the first time Labor has been ahead of the Coalition since May last year.  The poll also found 83% of voters were aware of the Coalition's IR agenda and 60% were opposed to it.
The poll results come as unions warn that annual leave could be the next workers' right to be slashed ubder the government's proposed reforms.
ACTU President, Sharan Burrow, has said the changes could allow employers to cut annual leave from four weeks to two, destroying the Australian tradition of the family holiday.
Under the laws, expected to be passed once the government takes full control of the Senate, workes can be forced onto individual contracts which make provision for only two weeks annual leave.
