Picket Line Kits launch

Geelong Trades Hall is launching new 'Picket Line Kits on Friday 7 October, 4.30pm.

Geelong Trades Hall has purchased two new Picket Line Kits and will launch them at a practice picket line on Geelong Trades Hall this Friday afternoon. State union secretaries and union delegates will attend the launch and view the display.

The new kits contain large marquee type tents; generators, lights, tables and chairs, wood fired heaters, first aid kits, BBQs and food warmers.

Tim Gooden, Secretary of Geelong Trades Hall, said; “We have put these kits together to provide logistical support for workers in our struggle to maintain fair workplaces.  If workers are locked out or there is a picket due to industrial issues then we will provide the practical support that is needed.  These kits are a valuable addition to the union movement and, while not providing all the comforts of home, will ensure that all the practical needs for a successful picket line or protest can be established within an hour if the need arises.”

Gooden said; “ I would like to think that the kits won’t be used.  However, the Howard government is making laws that encourage industrial disputes and will ultimately increase industrial action.  We are prepared for a long fight.   This is not a fight that the unions have started but be sure on this, we will finish it and we will win it.  Employers in Geelong should take note that if they intend to use Howard’s draconian laws to oppress workers then they will be taking on the entire union movement.”
