Deakin Campaign - IR Taskforce visit

Federal ALP’s Industrial Relations Taskforce is planning to visit the seat of Deakin on March 22 & 23 as part of their nationwide fact finding mission on the effects of the new IR laws. The ASU, FSU and CPSU (State Branch) have been running a marginal seat campaign in Deakin since last September and see this as an excellent opportunity to raise community awareness of the issues.
They need to hear from other unions about examples of employers' using the new IR laws to undermine employment security and conditions, from workplaces in the electorate where employers are taking advantage of the new laws and which it would be possible for the Taskforce to visit, and from delegates and activists who can tell their stories and express their concerns to the Taskforce hearings.
This is an excellent opportunity to get the message out through the local media to the community so we are particularly interested in stories that provide a photo opportunity.
Please contact Linda Cargill at lcargill@asupsvic.org if you have delegates, workplaces or stories so we can coordinate our efforts to deliver a clear message to both the Taskforce and the community that these laws will have an adverse effect on peoples' working lives.
