Library Workers Under Attack at Moonee Valley City Council

WorkChoices Moonee Valley Style!
COMMUNITY RALLY
WHEN:       Sunday 20 August
TIME:          1 - 3pm
WHERE:     Outside Sam Merrifield Library, Mt. Alexander Road, Moonee Ponds

Management at Moonee Valley City Council (MVCC) has been waging an aggressive campaign against staff conditions at the municipality under the guise of "Continuous Improvement".  Libraries are the current target with Management seeking to increase working hours.
Library workers currently work a 35 hour week which compensates them for working evenings and Saturday mornings without penalty rates. The Council is employing new staff on a 38 hour week and also plans to work them outside the normal spread of hours without penalty rates.
Management plans to do this by "agreement" with new staff. But they are using John Howard's definition of "agreement". That is, if new staff want a job or existing staff want a promotion they have to "agree" to worse conditions than all the other staff currently employed. If they don't "agree" to be disadvantaged they don't get the job! That's the choice: NO Choice!
Management could have raised this during the EBA process but they didn't. ASU members have said they are willing to negotiate some changes but Management has so far refused to negotiate.
MVCC Library workers need you're support to send a strong message to MVCC management, that they can't get away with this.
We ask you all to come to our staff and community rally and show your support for the library workers struggle to maintain existing conditions. Lets all call on Council to honour the EBA and Award.
