VTHC to join ‘Fairer Future’ Public Forum at Melbourne Town Hall

A joint communities, churches and trade unions public meeting tomorrow night, 7.00pm will address growing concern over the Howard government’s industrial relations laws. M.C. Father Bob McGuire will oversee public discussion preceded by keynote speakers: 
  • Maureen Postma, General Secretary, Victorian Council of Churches
  • Fr. Bruce Duncan, Redemptorist Priest, Consultant to Catholic Social Services Victoria
  • Brian Boyd, Secretary, Victorian Trades Hall Council
  • Chris Walton, Assistant Secretary, Australian Council of Trade Unions
  • Sally James, General Manager Community Development, Melbourne City Mission
  • Rev. David Pargeter, Executive Director, Uniting Church Commission for Mission
  • Rev. Canon Ray Cleary, Chief Executive Officer, Anglicare Victoria.

The themes of the discussion will concern the new workplace and welfare laws, the moral dimension of how the most vulnerable are affected and how a growing movement of opposition will see a big turnout at the next national community / workers rally on Wednesday 28 June in Melbourne.
Mr Brian Boyd, Secretary, Victorian Trades Hall Council said today that “the ‘Fairer Future’ Forum will hear an updated report on where the trade union movement sees how John Howard is facing massive political fallout from his draconian I.R. policies”.
