One year on from “WorkChoices’ – nothing to celebrate

March 27 2007
The VTHC said today, that while it was pleasing the recent results of the NSW State Election and last year’s Victorian State Election strongly reflected wide public concern over John Howard's IR laws, there was no room for complacency.
The VTHC Secretary, Brian Boyd has called on the trade union movement to redouble its efforts in the multifaceted campaign leading up to this year’s Federal Election.
“It’s been a long hard campaign since October 2004 when John Howard won the control of the Senate”.
“Hundreds of thousands of people have marched through our city streets, yet a lot of work is still required in order to ensure John Howard is thrown out of office for his sins against working people,” said Mr Boyd.
The VTHC highlighted the ongoing campaign by promoting the following events: A rank and file vigil on the anniversary of ‘WorkChoices’ tomorrow night (28 March) at 7pm, at the Safeway Car Park cnr Dorset and Boronia Rds, Boronia, adjacent the Federal Electoral office of Liberal member Jason Wood (La Trobe).
Also the VTHC, in conjunction with the ACTU national campaign, is holding a joint union / community family day at the Myer Music Bowl Sunday 22nd April 2007, between 12-4pm. All Welcome. Kids rides, picnic area, music, entertainment.
