Support ANF's Just Campaign 22 October 2007

The Australian Industrial Relations Commission has granted the Victorian Government's section 496 orders under the WorkChoices laws to stop the Victorian nurses' industrial action. The orders were effective from 7am on Monday (22nd Oct).
With all due respect to the AIRC, the Secretary of the Australian Nursing Federation (Victorian Branch) is obliged to follow the directions of ANF members, as contained in the resolution of 16 October 2007. It is crucial that members continue to maintain the industrial action and you are reminded of the Resolution from the Statewide Meeting on Tuesday 16 October 2007 which states: "All action above remains in place and can only lifted by a further Statewide meeting of ANF members. The Secretary is authorised to call such a meeting only in circumstances where the Secretary is recommending an offer of settlement of the dispute or to maintain/increase the action in support of the campaign."

The ANF is determined to press for talks the parties to continue in order to achieve an agreement that can be recommended to members at the statewide meeting on Thursday, 25 October 2007. ANF has offered to reschedule the statewide meeting earlier if an acceptable agreement that addresses the nurses issues for improved workloads and fair wages, is reached.
