UNION SUMMER

TRADES HALL'S INTERNSHIP PROGRAM FOR YOUNG UNIONISTS

What is Union Summer?

Union summer is a short internship program for young workers coordinated by the Victorian Trades Hall Council, conducted over a three-week period between January and February each year. The goal of Union Summer is to develop interns’ experience and skills in areas such as advocacy, union organising, industrial relations and activism within a trade union setting.

The program combines a specially developed training schedule by Trades Hall with a work placement within a Victorian union, providing young workers a better understanding of the Australian industrial relations system as well as hands-on experience in organising workplaces.

Important information

Union Summer is a full-time internship and includes several days of training at Trades Hall. Interns are paid an allowance to cover meal and travel costs. While there are no specific prerequisites for the internship, a proven interest in social justice and workers’ rights will be beneficial.
